Pakistan star batter and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged that the team deserves criticism for their performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 204 in the USA and West Indies. Pakistan had a disappointing campaign as they faced a defeat at the hands of USA and then India, despite being ahead of the arch-rivals through most part of the match. This resulted in them failing to qualify for the Super 8 of the tournament.

Following their exit, Pakistan faced more criticism, with reports suggesting internal issues within the team and poor player camaraderie. Mohammad Rizwan, reflecting on Pakistan’s campaign, stated that when a team loses, numerous things go wrong. He admitted that things were not right within the team.

“The criticism the team is facing is justified, and we deserve this since we didn’t perform in accordance with expectations. Players who can’t face criticism won’t be able to succeed. We are disappointed with our performance in the T20 World Cup. There are multiple reasons behind our losses. When a team loses, one can’t say that bowling and batting is doing well,” he stated while speaking to the media as per Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan Seconds PCB Chairman’s Call for ‘Surgery’ In Pakistan Team

In what was one of their worst campaigns, Pakistan had a dreadful outing in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan’s campaign started poorly with a loss to the United States of America in the game that went to Super Over. In the following game against India,

where they played better but ultimately lost as Indian bowlers secured a victory from a near-defeat position. These losses drew immense criticism towards the Pakistani team. Although they managed to secure consecutive victories against Ireland and Canada afterwards, they ultimately failed to qualify for the Super 8.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi called the need for a ‘major surgery’ within the team following Pakistan’s loss to India. Rizwan agreed that it was indeed necessary.

“Operations are a normal thing. When a person is ill, operation is necessary. PCB Chairman is a hard-working person. The decision about who will remain in the team and who will not is the chairman’s right,”
