Star Athlete Arshad Nadeem Aims for Pakistan’s First Olympic Medal Since 1992

Arshad Nadeem, a standout Pakistani athlete, is on the verge of making history as he aims for Pakistan’s first Olympic medal since 1992. Nadeem qualified for the final round of the men’s javelin throw competition at the Paris Olympics 2024 with an impressive throw of 86.59 meters. The qualifying round required a minimum distance of 84 meters to advance, and Nadeem’s performance has placed him among the top contenders.

In a heartfelt video message on Instagram, Nadeem expressed his gratitude and requested the nation’s support: “I have qualified for the final of the Paris Olympics 2024 as a result of your prayers. Please keep praying for me; the final is on August 8 at 11:25 pm. So please keep praying for me so I perform well and win a medal for Pakistan.”

Nadeem, a nine-time international medalist, finished fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He is currently Pakistan’s best hope for an Olympic medal, having won silver at the World Championships last year and gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a remarkable 90.18-meter throw.

The last Olympic medal for Pakistan came in 1992, when the field hockey team secured bronze in Barcelona.

In the qualifying round, notable performances included India’s Neeraj Chopra with a throw of 89.34 meters, Grenada’s Anderson Peters with 88.63 meters, Germany’s Julian Weber with 87.76 meters, Kenya’s Julius Yego with 85.97 meters, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch with 85.63 meters, and Finland’s Toni Keranen with 85.27 meters.
